What is
RSV ?
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is an infection similar to the common cold. It has many of the same symptoms and is highly contagious. RSV can be spread through contact, coughing and sneezing. It can also live on surfaces and can be spread easily by touching something contaminated such as a doorknob or
counter top. There are two types of RSV and many
sub types, which is the reason most people will have the infection multiple times throughout their life.
By the age of three, most children have been infected with RSV at least once. It
is usually not cause for concern. However, it can lead to pneumonia and other complications in babies. It is important to watch symptoms carefully and contact the doctor if your child is not improving or getting worse.
